Georgina began working as a support worker for clients with a range of acquired brain injuries in 2016. This was following a change from her previous roles in the property industry and other fields since graduating in 2008. Within two years, she had found her niche and wanted to build on her experience, she was introduced to Occupational Therapy and begun the course at Oxford Brookes in 2018 which is due to be completed in 2021.

Georgina has continued to support clients during her studies which has given her first-hand experience to apply theory to practice. Georgina has gained experience on placements including writing care plans, prescribing equipment and assessing ways to promote independence in the community in the adult population. Georgina has worked with children in the school and community setting and has worked with a range of children with physical and learning difficulties, providing therapy sessions, assessments and developing person and family centred goals.

Most recently, Georgina has been organising activities for members of the Oxford Silverlining charity to promote participation for those living with a brain injury during lockdown. In her spare time, she has hosted bingo nights, cookery demonstrations and art classes via video calls. Georgina recognised the importance to keep people connected in uncertain times and has thoroughly enjoyed using her creativeness to do so.

In her role as a support worker, Georgina has had the opportunity to support clients on trips abroad and recognises the value that these trips have for our clients, enabling them to visit places they and their families never thought would be possible. This has provided Georgina with an insight to the challenges that travel can present and enables her to seek solutions to overcome difficulties.

Georgina lives in the countryside and when she has time, she likes nothing more than baking sourdough bread, cooking a variety of food and experimenting with ingredients and recipes. She also enjoys collected unwanted furniture to restore and paint to give them a new lease of life.

She most enjoys travelling to the French Alps and Cornwall. One day she will also return to landscape painting which was a fond hobby in the past that she is keen to recommence in the future.
