Jenny has 18 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist and works with children, young people and adults of all backgrounds who are affected by accident, sensory and physical impairments, disability and trauma including:

Jenny has extensive experience working with other agencies such as health, social care, education providers, architects, solicitors, housing and grants departments, 3rd sector organisations, foster care managers and families to ensure that the individual and their carers' needs are effectively met.

She appreciates the complexities of the different organisations and the individual roles they play in the journey of a person with specific or complex needs. As individual cases dictate, Jenny works collaboratively with Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Specialist Medical Practitioners and Rehabilitation Engineers, Social Workers and other professionals involved in the care and provision services for persons experiencing impairment. She understands the need to be flexible and responsive to the needs of others.

Jenny has a good depth of understanding of the individual disciplines and of their role in the rehabilitation or habilitation journey for the individual and how this impacts on their home and living environments. Jenny has worked for the Charity Whizz-Kidz where she represented the organisation as mobility therapist for Wales and was involved in assessment, prescription and delivery of mobility equipment which included trikes, specialist manual and hi-tech powered wheelchairs, specialist seating and environmental controls.

Early mobility for young people is philosophy that she passionately believes in and practices to reach this goal for children and young people with impaired mobility skills. Jenny has over 18 years of working in acute and community hospital settings and specialist units / schools.

During this time, she has gained specialist skills assessing and prescribing special equipment to support the needs of people with impairments. This equipment includes specialist seating for optimum function and for relaxation, items to support development of bathing, toileting, moving and handling and everyday living skills. She contributes to designed solutions for custom adaptation of equipment and evaluates products new to the market.

Jenny has extensive experience assessing people in their homes, education environments or work places and making recommendations for specific building adaptations to meet individual needs. In addition, she has regularly contributed to the design of new build projects for housing associations creating unique spaces to enhance the management of care for persons with disability. Jenny works closely with architects to create realistic solutions and optimum living environment for individuals with lifelong impairments and disabilities. Furthermore, she will assess and review the equipment / products suitable to support the person's functional needs to fit in with the design of the home or environmental adaptation.

At a management level, Jenny has been the clinical services manager for the Dyscovery Centre where she managed a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and assisted a team manager in a Community Occupational Therapy Service. These management positions involved providing clinical support and supervision to team members on a daily and formal basis, participating in professional development reviews, developing new processes and documentation to support changing service delivery, reviewing and revising policies and protocols and participating in the recruitment and selection process of new therapists and support staff.

Jenny is an advocate for children, young people, adults and their families whom she works with so that they are adequately represented and get access to the specialist services and equipment that they require. As an Occupational Therapist working with children and young people with varying needs and conditions, Jenny has an appreciation of the need for a managed approach to ensure services are streamlined and pathways are coordinated.

Jenny is committed to ongoing Continual Professional Development activities and maintains her Occupational Therapy clinical skills and knowledge through a variety of learning events and by continuing to engage in clinical work as an independent practitioner.
