EXPERIENCE

Gabriella studied Psychology at Aberystwyth University, and following her undergraduate degree she undertook a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology. During her MSc, Gabriella completed a qualitative research study into the impact of community rehabilitation on the recovery of an individual after traumatic brain injury. As part of this study, she interviewed several support workers who worked with Community Case Management Services’ clients which sparked her enthusiasm.

During her MSc in 2015, Gabriella started working with clients with acquired brain Injury, as well as volunteering at the Silverlining Charity in her spare time. She has over 7 years’ experience working as a support worker, team leader and assistant case manager which compliments the theoretical underpinning obtained during her education with a practical understanding of real-life applications and approaches. Gabriella is passionate about advocating for inclusivity and hopes to one day complete an Occupational Therapy Degree.

Gabriella successfully manages clients with the following:

  • Traumatic brain injury, including a range of impairments such as executive function, impulsivity and emotional regulation.
  • Physical functional difficulties
  • Emotional and cognitive difficulties
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Spinal injuries
  • Learning disabilities including Autism and Dyslexia
  • Complex care packages

Gabriella’s niche is working with clients who have complex needs and large support packages. She has worked as a team leader for several years with a client who required 2-1 care and found that her organised demeanour had a positive impact on the client and support workers. Gabriella can confidently recruit and manage support packages for her clients.

Gabriella enjoys the client facing work and likes taking a plan or idea and making it a reality. She supported one of her clients on an accessible skiing trip, which ended up being one of the most socially and therapeutically beneficial activities she had the pleasure to see him engage with. Gabriella believes that an activity does not have to be boring just because it is important or necessary. Therapy and rehabilitation can be meaningful as well as beneficial and Gabriella enjoys finding activities which suit the individuals interests as well as rehabilitative needs.

Gabriella has years of experience communicating with multi-disciplinary teams and finds the collaborative approach to care very exciting. Working with professionals who have a specialist knowledge base is invaluable to contributing to a client’s quality of life. Gabriella understands that there is strength in knowing your weaknesses and values having a team around her who are all working towards the same client centred goal.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Gabriella’s partner underwent life-saving open-heart surgery just 2 weeks before she gave birth to their first child so she has dealt with the impact of trauma and rehabilitation first-hand. Gabriella has a strong understanding of the mental, physical, emotional and behavioural effect that this can have on an individual and the people closest to them. This has built a strong foundation of empathy and determination in Gabriella’s approach to her career and personal and professional liaisons.

Gabriella is outgoing and loves to be active. She now has two young children (born just 11 months apart!) and her favourite pastime is skiing. She cannot wait until her two children are old enough to enjoy the snow with her and her partner. Gabriella understands the importance of living life to its potential and always strives to find joy in anything she does.
