EXPERIENCE

During Joanna’s final two years at secondary school, she was hit by a car causing intensive head injuries so after leaving school she was unable to work or study full time. She completed some part time courses and then went on to work part time voluntarily until she felt she was able to start full time work.

Joanna started her employment in offices in an administrative role. She tried a secretarial position along with credit control and sales and then went on to study Health and Social Care. After completing this, Joanna worked as a support worker for an employment agency, supporting those with physical disabilities, people with mental health issues that lived in the community and those that were in hospital. She supported the elderly as a home care worker and she also worked in a rehabilitation hospital in York for those recovering from a head injury. She also enjoyed time spent working in a centre that supported the vulnerably housed.

Joanna spent many years working in care with children in a residential setting and young adults that lived alone. When Joanna worked as an outreach worker, she gained the skills of working with little supervision, carrying her own caseload, ensured all plans and risk assessments for her clients were kept up to date and in line with legal requirements.

Joanna is thorough with her work, conscientious and organised. She became a team leader on two occasions where she was then responsible for the staff development of a team and she gained skills for giving supervisions, helping staff reflect on their work practice and finding areas for them to excel in. Joanna feels that working with a wide variety of people has given her a huge amount of skills in communication, patience and a flexible approach to working with people in a wide variety of circumstances.

Joanna later passed her diploma in Life Coaching and then became self-employed. Joanna has a passion for supporting people to set goals to achieve what they want from life.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Joanna spends some of her spare time walking with her dog in the peak district. She enjoys furthering her education and has recently completed a Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and has now been accepted as a therapist with Anxiety UK.

Earlier this year, Joanna also studied and passed an exam and she is now a qualified Veterinary Support Assistant - this interested her due to being a dedicated dog owner. Joanna also enjoys going to the cinema and the theatre.
