Rebecca has attended many Brain / Spinal Injury and other Rehabilitation conferences and courses to maintain her knowledge and working practice.

Rebecca has completed the Community Case Management Services pathway to Lead Case Management level, which has provided her with a high level of understanding of the role of the case manager and the litigation process as well as its impact on clients and their families.

With this in mind, monthly case management updates with action plans and goals are made available. All appointed treating therapists are screened before being appointed and what is expected of them in regard to working to set goals and the need to evaluate and provide justification of costs and therapy regularly.

Rebecca is a Registered General Nurse with twenty years' experience caring for patients and their families within acute medical care and community based.

Rebecca manages the facilitation and planning of complex care programmes within the community, incorporating rehabilitation programmes, all tailored to each individual's personal requirements through the forming of multi-agency partnerships, with the provision for carer breakdown, respite and client/carer holidays. Within this role there was also the need for patient/carer education, advocacy and support.

Rebecca has a special interest in spinal injury management at all levels, both adult and children. For three years, Rebecca worked with Headway North Worcestershire, managing a large caseload. Her role was to complete multidisciplinary assessments of people who have an acquired brain injury, and thus presenting with a wide variety of neurological deficits.

Brain Spinal and Catastrophic Complex Injury Case Manager

For the past 12 years, since leaving Headway, Rebecca has been working as a Case Manager for Community Case Management Services Ltd. Her caseload consists of both adults and children. All of the cases that she holds are complex and demanding working with clients and families of those that have sustained catastrophic brain and spinal injuries, both complete and incomplete. All the cases require a sensitive approach and also have a detailed multi-disciplinary and multi-agency input, with the Case Manager acting as the client and family advocate and co-ordinating the rehabilitation and care programme.

Rehabilitation and support packages for each client is bespoke and tailored specifically to the individual client requirements with families needs taken into account at all times.

The role of case manager requires working closely and managing the Rehabilitation Therapists and Professionals, Schools, Professionals for Housing Adaptations, plus any discipline/ professional required for individual rehabilitation packages. This extends to individual client social interests and hobbies and the promotion of involvement within these.

The cases Rebecca manages vary between settled and non-settled compensation claims working alongside statutory services as necessary.

Rebecca has worked in Emergency Medical care, Gastric Medicine, Haematology and HIV/AIDS within the Hospital environment. She has also worked within a District Nursing team providing on-going care for chronic conditions, palliative care, acute care and rehabilitation a wide variety of illnesses plus of those who have had amputations due to injury or illness and require a high level of rehabilitation, care and adjustment to their situation. All of these areas required continual assessment and review of nursing and therapy needs and necessary input, there was also the need for on going client and family support.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Rebecca was very fortunate to have grown up in rural Devon. Her father was a single-handed GP and this has given her a lifelong experience of medical input and community-based rehabilitation and care. She is able to draw on these experiences and understanding of family dynamics within her current practice, the need to be flexible and responsive to the needs of others. Rebecca is very committed to all those that she is privileged to work with and aims to meet all the challenges that are presented to her.

Rebecca is married with two children, who pursue sporting and various social activities.
