Experience >

Kate graduated from the University of Southampton in 2013, since qualifying she has worked in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient acute hospital andrehabilitation settings in the NHS, as well as community health settings and in adult social care teams within the south.

Kate can provide case management support for clients with the following:

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Traumatic brain injuries

Kate can also provide support with the following areas of interest:

  • Postural management assessments
  • Moving and handling assessments

  • Management of adaptations and specialist equipment
  • Full housing/rehousing assessments
  • Sourcing independent therapy and care providers to meet the client’s needs.
  •  Liaison with statutory bodies regarding funds for equipment, continuing healthcare, and managing personal health budgets.‍
  •  Falls assessment and prevention

Kate has worked in both inpatient and community rehabilitation which has assisted in assessing patients’ needs in a holistic manner considering the clients personal goals and limitations. Therefore, being able to support with progressing the client’s independence and supporting with any longer-term requirements, including access to care, rehousing, adaptations, supporting with any guidance on moving and handling, access to community services. Kate also has a wide range of knowledge on equipment available to assist in maintaining independence. She is also able to support in preventative management of falls within the home environment and sign posting to services where needed.

Kate recently has been working within the social care setting, supporting with Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) work and privately funded adaptation work. She is also passionate about complex moving and handling and optimising care, as well as focusing on client centred care, maintaining client’s dignity and wellbeing with both care and therapeutic intervention. Kate thrives on building rapport with her clients, other professionals and the client’s relatives/advocates, recognising the importance of all parties in supporting therapeutic intervention and long-term care planning. Kate has recently attended the ROSPA level 4 moving and handling training to support with optimal handed care and progressing her practise.

Kate has worked with a variety of long-term conditions, including neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Stroke, Cerebral palsy, learning disability to name a few conditions. She is able to support clients at early diagnosis, as well as at later stages and with palliative care. This can include supporting with CHC funding applications, postural support assessments and ongoing risk assessments.

Kate has been involved in the development of teams within inpatient rehabilitation settings, including supervising and managing staff. She has been involved in the creation and development of niche services to support with the care crisis in the southwest; involving recruitment of care and therapy staff and training to support with bridging care into the community whilst awaiting long term care to avoid bed blocking in the NHS and looking at optimising care where possible to reduce ongoing care costs and promoting client centredness by greater involvement in the client’s care.

Kate has in recent years moved to Somerset but has enjoyed working as a locum across the southwest region, where she has seamlessly integrated into teams working, as both a team player and an autonomous practitioner with her approachable and friendly mannerism. She is also passionate in supporting her own development as well as others, having an awareness of training opportunities available and undertaking professional reading in her own time.

Kate is a very sociable person who enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She is a lively spirit who enjoys taking opportunities to try new experiences and challenge herself, including skydives, long hikes (up to 100km), wild camping to name a few examples. She has an interest in travelling and when possible, likes to go abroad to explore new cultures, she has a camper van converted by herself and partner and they like to use this to explore the UK and Europe. Kate also has a passion for exercise and has had a long-term interest in hiking, road bikes and weightlifting.
