Nicola has attended several courses relating to rehabilitation, brain injury in the family, sex and sexuality following acquired brain injury and has undergone an introductory course in Psychoanalytic Theories & Concept at Severnside Institute for Psychotherapy.
Nicola has been offered a place to study for a Masters in Integrative Art Psychotherapy.
Nicola has worked with brain injured clients since January 2007. She comes from the corporate world, which included time living and working in France, and then a period working with behaviourally challenged children in a therapeutic setting in the UK. She began her work with brain injured clients by offering massage therapies before becoming a support worker, team leader, and then Senior Case Manager Assistant, before progressing to her current role as a BABICM Practitioner Case Manager 13 years ago.
Nicola has always been and continues to be committed to professional development. She has completed courses relating to rehabilitation, brain injury in the family, sex and sexuality following acquired brain injury, and an introductory course in Psychoanalytic Theories & Concept at Severnside Institute for Psychotherapy. She recently completed a certificate in Arts Therapy and has been offered a place to study for a Masters in Integrative Art Psychotherapy.
Nicola has extensive experience working with adults, children and families. She has followed the Community Case Management comprehensive case management training pathway and has had rigorous supervision. She therefore has a high-level of understanding of the litigation process and the importance of record keeping and documentation.
As a committed case manager, she instils into her teams key components of sensitive practice based on her experience and the insights gained first hand. She also guides and advises Team Leaders and Support Workers to provide accurate and appropriate information to aid the holistic presentation of the client’s care needs.
Nicola is passionate about using a client centred, therapeutic approach and has successfully set up and managed 24hr care teams for clients with an acquired brain injury. She communicates well with clients, their families, legal teams and all healthcare professionals and has been successful at securing alternative/additional funding for them, ensuring ongoing support can be provided and covered.
Nicola supervises all aspects of running the home, organising holidays and activities, as well as maintaining focus on ongoing rehabilitation to maximise potential and bring fun and fulfilment in everyday life. She is passionate about helping people to achieve their dreams and goals. As an avid skier Nicola has co-ordinated numerous CCM ski trips for both adults and children since 2011. She has also been taking groups of CCM clients to North Devon annually to enjoy the thrill and therapeutic advantages of adapted surfing.
Nicola is dedicated to expanding the horizons of her clients and sees providing opportunities for learning new things and building friendships as a key part of her role. Alongside her client focus, Nicola has been a volunteer co-ordinator for the Silverlining Charity in Oxford for over a decade. She has helped organise many events, including the infamous Fashion Show and manages a weekly art group called Silver Studios. These activities enable those with brain injury in the area to be part of a community network and build social relationships. As a result, many of her clients/Silverliners now socialise together in their own time.
Nicola is cheerful and energetic with strong empathy, understanding and patience. Her enthusiasm is a key factor in motivating clients to move forward. She is highly creative and seeks to make a difference and add value in all that she does. Nicola is very sociable and enjoys being out and about.
She has four dogs so spends a lot of her free time walking them. She enjoys exercise, mediation and keeps her hand in with reflexology. Nicola enjoys riding her motorcycle, spending time with her nephews and pottering in the garden. She is a casual reader and enjoys art projects when she can. She would like to meet Keanu Reeves!
