Experience >

Experience

Rachel qualified as a nurse in 2005 and spent 12 years predominantly practicing in burns and intensive care settings. This included coordinating complex admissions and discharges, as well as running a specialist outpatients unit and theatre. She was a regular team leader during these years and provided mentorship to pre- and post-registration nursing and other healthcare associates.

During her seven years in intensive care, Rachel regularly managed and cared for patients with tracheostomies and other airway adjuncts, as well as NG and PEG tubes. She regularly led shifts and was responsible for departmental off-duty rotas for over two years, ensuring adequate skills coverage across shifts and liaising with outside agencies when needed.

Rachel has experience in shortlisting and interviewing healthcare professionals, as well as carrying out appraisals and assessments. She completed her BSc in Professional Clinical Practice, with specialist modules in Burns, Plastics, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Tissue Viability.

Passionate about evidence-based practice, Rachel was published in the Journal of Wound Care and presented at the British Burns Association conference in Dublin. She also taught on the Burns and Plastics degree pathway, covering effective hand dressings in burns patients.

As a nurse, Rachel provided supervision, care, and guidance to patients, families, and staff — recognising the impact of effective, organised management and the importance of strong working relationships.

Rachel understands first-hand the impact of traumatic head injuries after her husband suffered a severe head injury following a cycling accident. She dedicated five years to her family before returning to work as an assistant case manager in 2021.

As a practitioner case manager, Rachel has managed support worker teams, written rotas, overseen recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and training. She has experience writing and reviewing clinical paperwork, including care plans and risk assessments, and has supported CHC funding reviews and appeals. She works closely with clients, families, and deputy teams to ensure a client-centred, holistic approach to care.

Rachel always gives 100% to ensure the best possible outcomes for her clients and their families. She has worked with both children and adults and adapts her approach to suit the needs of each client and their wider family.
