Official Partnership with The Wave Project

Exciting announcement!

After 5 years of joyful collaboration with The Wave Project we are  thrilled to announce our official partnership with this wonderful charity. The ethos at Community Case Management has always been that Life is for living and The Wave Project takes this idea and runs with it. The Charity, founded in 2010, helps children and young people through surf therapy courses and has delivered smiles to over 10,000 youngsters so far. The physiological and psychological benefits of Grounding and Ocean immersion are well documented, with electron transfers reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, yet surfing somehow adds a further Kinaesthetic dimension to the party. Cornwall is the home of the original wave project, as an NHS pilot to investigate the benefits of surf therapy, it now extends to 14 hubs in Devon, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The reach of the wave project is not limited to those recovering from serious injuries and is primarily geared towards improving mental health of young people, regardless of their level of physical ability. Research has show that young people who have worked with the Wave Project enjoy higher self esteem, reduced anxiety, better trust and more positive life outcomes.

Beyond its Domestic operations, The Wave Project has made international surf dreams of our clients come true, with an annual trip to the Canary Islands now a Callendar highlight for client James. The Canary Islands, home to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, is characterised by year round Sun and Volcanic scenery with dozens of surfable beaches. Our experience shows that these locations, which match breathtaking scenery, the nourishing effect of sunlight and surfing are particularly therapeutic. James kindly shared some thoughts on his experiences with surf therapy, describing the Wave Project as being “Good people and good support in all weather.” His surfing has come on leaps and bounds over the last four years of partnership with The Wave Project. Jame’s phenomenal  support worker Aaron said the following: “what a week, I can’t actually put it into words”. I’d echo Aaron’s thoughts entirely, there were a number of priceless moments that simply took our breath away.  Aaron is a great example of the network effect of the wave project, going surfing with his family in Newquay after catching the buzz in Croyde.

Wave project volunteer Andy has just returned from Huntington Beach California, coaching the English Para-Surfing Team at the World Championships. The team landed a number of medals and represented the nation fantastically. Much like Ian, long-time volunteer and pioneer of the Wave Project he lives and breathes the Ocean and they get on famously well. Keep an eye out for them for anyone who heads down for a session in their stomping ground Croyde with a client, friend or family member.

Watch this space for future collaborations and exciting trips away!
